Duane “Dog” Chapman’s Racial Slurs
Duane Chapman’s show Dog: The Bounty Hunter has been canceled by A&E after his son sent the media a privately recorded conversation, a snippet of which has been reproduced as:
Chapman: Don’t care if she’s a Mexican, a whore, whatever. It’s not ’cause she’s black. It’s because we use the word “n_____” sometimes here. I’m not going to take a chance ever in life by losing everything I’ve worked for for 30 years for some f____ n_____ heard us say “n_____” and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine — our career is over. I’m not taking that chance at all, never in life, never. Never. … If Lyssa was dating a n_____, we would all say f___ you. And you know that. If Lyssa brought a black guy home … It’s not that they’re black. It’s none of that. It’s that we use the word “n____.” We don’t mean “you f___ scum n_____ without a soul.” We don’t mean that s___, but America would think we’re meaning that. And we’re not taking a chance and losing everything we’ve got over a racial slur. Because our son goes with a girl like that, I can’t do that, Tucker, you can’t expect Garry, Bonnie, Cecily, all them young kids … ’cause I’m in love for seven months, I … f___ that. … So I’ll help you get another job, but you cannot work here unless you break up with her and she’s out of your life. I can’t handle that s___. I’ve got ‘em in the parking lot trying to record us. I’ve got that girl saying she’s going to wear a recorder. …
Tucker: I … I … don’t even know what to say.

It’s quite hard to tell what Duane Dog Chapman really does mean, as it appears to be some kind of retroactive apology for calling his son’s girlfriend a “ni**er” based around the idea that when he says it, he doesn’t really mean it. A commenter on ONTD asks a question that’s worth following up:
Why are people inspired by this guy? He’s a convicted felon many times over and was even in jail for murder at one point.
Chapman issued a press statement reaffirming his support for the black community:
“I did not mean to add yet another slap in the face to an entire race of people who have brought so many gifts to this world,” he said. “I am ashamed of myself and I pledge to do whatever I can to repair this damage I have caused.”
First Mel Gibson and now this? America has a long way to go.

this is totally rediculous. you want to know why america loves dog chapman, well i am here to tell you. he got a monster of the streets that was raping women and laughing at the authorities, because no one could track him down. i look up to dog because i was molested as a child and i had no one to take that bad man from me. he cares about people, he tries to help those in trouble to get their lives straight. yes he is an ex convict, but we all deserve second chances. tell me you have never done anything that you need forgiveness for. we are not here to judge. he took his experience and did something good with it. shame on you for judging. shame on dogs son for doing this to his father. havent you ever heard that blood is thicker than water. everyone uses this word.. not one i like and havent used it in a very long time, but for those who are ignorant to the word, it could be meant for black or white. because i have known some white n*****s in my life. so get of your high horse and get a life and leave the chapmans alone.

Sheila I have to agree with you 100% Everyone is taking this way too far. Dog has taken many criminals off the streets and has tried to help people get their lives back on track but because he said n****r in a private conversation that is supposed to erase all of the good that he has done, bulls**t!!! I have heard many times over where african americans have called each other n****r and its ok but if a person of another race says it then its highly offense, why is that?
on November 7th, 2007 at 12:05 am
First of all, to the first responder, get your facts straight. It was his son who gave this tape to the Enquirer. To the second individual, NO.. not everyone uses that word and the fact that you think so says a lot about you. Also you are obviously the one who is ignorant about the word. The fact that people petitioned to have the original meaning changed in the dictionary, did not change the history of the word or the number of people who DIED because of it. If the word itself applied to any race you would not have felt the need to say WHITE n****r. To the last young lady, because you have asked why it is okay for some but not for others to use this word, I will tell you. That word is part of a long, painful time where black people were killed, degraded, and dehumanized by another race. For this reason, the word when said by others always has and always will be offensive. African Americans using it as a term of endearment or slang is only done to take some of the sting out of the word. But the feeling when they say it to each is not one of disrespect. Stil, it is not a word that anyone especially black people should ever want to use. While I can’t justify his comments, I believe that Duane Chapman has and will continue to do good things in his life. This just wasn’t one of them

I do not know why freedom of speech is not being at all considered. He said a bad word yes it has affected african americans in the past but geez it sounds like this girlfriend and his son where planning on catching dad saying something wrong & milking it.. LEAVE DOG ALONE!!!! I FORGIVE U & LUV U MAN U HAVE DONE A LOT OF GOOD THINGS AND 1 WORD U USE DOESN’T ERASE ALL YOUR GOOD DEEDS!!! This is all we have 2 worry about while soldiers are fighting for us and so many other things are happening in this world??
on November 8th, 2007 at 1:02 pm
I AM SORRY THAT YOU FEEL THAT THIS WORD ONLY AFFECTED PEOPLE IN THE PAST. I GUESS ITS ONE OF THOSE NOT UNDERSTANDING UNTIL YOU HAVE WALKED IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES KINDA THING.. LIKE YOU I BELIEVE THAT THE SON AND GIRLFRIEND HAD IT OUT FOR DAD. THANKS FOR KEEPING THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE ON THIS HOWEVER. WE HAVE SO MANY OTHER THINGS GOING ON AND SO MUCH WE CAN ALL ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER. WOULDN’T THAT BE GREAT…..

Is this really what people want to care about? We all make mistakes, give it a rest. We have a real war going on in this world, let’s focus on that.

I was a very big supporter of Duane Chapman before the release of this information. I understand that this, in no way, impacts his ability to do his job and I am thankful that there is some one in place to keep the streets in Hawaii safe. That being said, I will no longer support Duane Chapman and anything that he is involved with. His comments show that he was only concerned with getting caught making the comments. I do not believe in any way that he is just learning what that word means. It was the main argument during the Imus ordeal- everyone was saying his situation wasn’t so bad because he didn’t say that word. Duane Chapman does a great job, but he is a Racist Exposed and now he wants to make amends. Think about this: Does the fact that he feels this way about Black people mean that these are his thoughts during his captures of Blacks? Please forgive me all my Jewish Brothers and Sisters for what I’m about to remind you of- This is the reason why the Jewish Community is still actively seeking any members of the old Holocaust soldiers. Many have been identified as ex-law enforcement. People with Power to control lives- power given to them by our government that we elected. See where I’m going? Duane Chapman may do a good job, but how do his views affect how his job is performed? His views are obviously influential, he told his son to choose his girlfriend or his job. As far as I’m concerned now , I once saw Dog as someone to look up to and a pretty good role model, now he’s just a guy that does a job. I am no longer a supporter. I go to Hawaii at least twice a year and I had my company make Sports Jerzeez for the whole Chapman family, Beth included and I was going to present it to them at a ceremony that we hold. Now after this, their on their own. I don’t want anything to do with them. I have already e-mailed all the information pertaining to this to all my business associates across the country and abroad just to make sure that none of the stations in our network help out with getting this show back on the air. Either way though, thanks for all your good work “Dog”, Happy Hunting.

I know a ton of people who talk like this and don’t consider themselves racist. However, none of them would bar their children from mixed race relationships.
Civil Rights has become such a mess lately. Duane Dog is not keeping college attendance low. Duan didn’t beat anyone’s ancestors or pay money to keep BET on the air(I hope). Is this a problem that needs to be handled? Sure. But the last thing I would want to see is Duane sucking up to the black community and apologizing for something he is not sorry for.
He should simply apologize to those whose feelings may have been hurt and move on.

seems there are more than a few whites who are upset at the noise caused by this incident, looks as if they beleive the subject in queastion and said statements should be brushed off and looked past as just a personal rant, some feel his good deeds should far exceed 1 bad choice, sadley the choice shows us whats really inside the man.

There’s no excuse for blatant racism but some might reserve the right to veterans and ex-cons. When the system sends you to jail or war, you can’t help but be a little politically incorrect. That’s not to say Duane’s comments are justified so much as they make sense.

im not sure what to say… i was soo into Dog and his family, i just read his book- thought it was great and inspiring now im left wondering if everything ive read and heard from Dog have been lies… how can you speak of being so in to God and forgivness and second chances when you dont even believe all he has created are equals and deserve the same. I read an opinion on his show stating that the show should not be canceled because this was a private conversation and that we would be dealing with a slipery slope if we start punishing people for things said in private. On one hand i tend to agree and further belive that if put back on it stands a good chance of failing now anyway but on the other hand im not sure we can stand to have him as a roll model to our children anymore.. because i do belive in the ways of God i say we have to be the bigger people and offer him up forgiveness and hope that he seeks it with his son and the girlfriend and her family that im sure he has left extremly hurt and offended. And hopefully like he has done with so much of his past he can use this and a teaching experince to help other racist thinking people in this world. and by this i do mean by being honest about who he is and what he really thinks and not by using cheesy excuses or lawyer written apologies.
i still think he and his team have done alot of good in getting alot of very bad people off the street and hope that they continue to do so..im not sure if ill continue to follow up on him or not for now ill sign off as one very dissapointed fan

I think some of you are wrong for saying good things about him, when he said n_ word and when he was a ex convict. Even if he was mad he had no right to say the n_ word, NO REASON AT ALL.

I think it is so wrong for A&E, to just take him off A&E, he was setup by his own son. Everyone slips in the wrong word once in awhile, Dwayne Chapman has been throw alot, him and his family. This is so wrong, everyone desires a second chance. Theres is alot of his fans, that are heart broke over this, they love what he does and how much he puts into his job. I bet the ratings of his show were sky high and i think thats another reason you shouldn’t take him off. Dwayne Chapman is a good man and his family. When A&E took him off air i just couldn’t believe it. I was in shock and i still can’t believe it.. PLEASE find it in your hearts to give this good man another chance pleaseeeeeeeeeee. From Christine

What a society we live in. It’s so easy for whites to want to pass this on as if it’s nothing. We as blacks don’t ask you for anything accept equality. That’s all we ask. And his ignorance shows us how far America has to go. For this guy to fear that his son dating a “black” girl will ruin his family shows that we have so far to go. Equality is all we ask. He deserves everything he gets and there is no way to excuse it. Your true colors have been released good luck in the future. We forgive you because it’s GOD’S way. We won’t forget and I’m sure you won’t either “Dog”.

I can not believe A&E would take a show as successful as “Dog the Bounty Hunter” completely off the air. Apparently no one at the A&E organization have siblings. Jealously is the green monster who shows his head when a sibling who has been in consistant trouble with the law does not get what he has not earned. I come from a family of green monsters, who are always trying to create problems for me because I work hard and use my head and make wise decisions. Their jealously consists of lies, betrail, fraud and some of the most hurtful things anyone could do to another human being.
I can’t believe you would take the set-up personal conversation from Tucker, a convicted felon who wants to bring his father down because of his jealousy. Slang is just that, slang, especially when it is used in the context of which “Dog” spoke with his disrespectful son.
My understanding of the taped conversation is, “Dog” was trying to protect the black girl by telling his felon son what to expect from the “Bounty Hunter’s” in preparation for a job being planned out. Apparently Tucker didn’t learn to be respectful while being incarcerated, instead he became a jealous son. He needs to be taken behind the barn for a good old fashioned whooping. Better than that, dis-own the trouble maker, he will back stab “Dog” again. Just because you have children does not mean you have to like them, some are born of bad seed, it is not a fault of a parent.
Keep your chin up, you hard working Chapman’s, don’t let this heartless, selfish, jealous felon bring any of you down. God is good, he knows who is right in this situation. Sometimes old habits are hard to break, the habits are passed down from generation to generation and that means using the word n—–. Let it go, Tucker sat the entire situation up and won. He should be ashamed of himself, he not only affected his Dad, look at the many people he put out of work in his jealous rage.
I would appreciate a reply whenever it is convenient for you.
Thank you,
Frankie & Johnnie Burns
