Perez Hilton Shut Down
Being constantly sued for profiting from photos he has no rights to, Perez Hilton’s site was briefly shut down because his host received complaints about the hosting of copyright images. We don’t agree that what almost all gossip blogs do (which is steal photos) falls under the fair use exception, especially on breaking news, but it’s nice that Perez is standing up for his rights, and the rights of all gossip bloggers.
Perezhilton.com stands by its commitment to protect the freedom of people to transform content on the internet for the purpose of commentary and satire and unquestionably believes that it comports with the fair use exception.
Translation: Perezhilton stands by its commitment to mash up internet content to produce more REVENUE!
Celebrity Gossip.com: New Celeb Blog
I’m being paid to let you guys know there’s a new gossip blog in town. They’ve secured the lucrative and expensive domain CelebrityGossip.com, a Wordpress-powered aggregator site, and pretty pink Google advertisements:
Except for their advertisement at the top, though, the site is quite cleanly layed out and designed. Every story gets a legal, licensed photo to accompany it (take that Perez), a list of “related chatter” ala techmeme (but so much better!), and a community story rating. Currently their hottest item appears to be slow down baby, a new song by Christina Aguilera.
Major criticism? The related chatter is too verbose; it can’t roll up the conversation into small groups, it just displays a massive (a page or two) of links:
Still, they’re clearly trying to innovate, which many other gossip blogs (this one included), do not have a chance to do. Good luck making a name for yourself, Celebrity Gossip!!
Angelina Jolie Lost It First
Derek Hail’s Who lost it first? is a diversion into the sexual history of your favorite celebrities, starting with Angelina Jolie:
At the tender of age of 14 she lost her virginity, then cut up the boy who did it. And thus began a pattern which would mar all her future relationships, cause her to wear a vial of blood, and turn to family-man Brad Pitt for escape.
The post mentions some other favorites, like Paris Hilton and Marcia Cross, but neglects Drew Barrymore, who lost hers before she was 14. She had her first drink at nine, began smoking MJ at 10, and by 12 had taken up cocaine. Luckily she’s turned herself around since then, but her childhood exploits are more fascinating than any on Derek’s list.
Five Gossip Blogs Better Than Perez Hilton
If you can get over his smug face, flamboyantly defiant sexuality, and gaudy blog design, you still might hate the fact that Perez Hilton is incredibly popular from stealing all kinds of celebrity photographs. Unfortunately, in the gossip world Perez is king; if you watch celebrities, you read Perez.
This post aims to change that, by introducing five smoking hot gossip blogs you might not know about. They blow Perez out of the water–we don’t mean what you think that means Perez!
They post a new item almost every minute. Their stories are collaboratively written by a massive host of LJers. You can’t beat popular news, especially when it’s being written and reported by the populace! Photobucket should ban them, they use so much bandwidth!
#2) Celebrity Hack
Definitely the wittiest of the celebrity blogs, CelebrityHack takes the Perez-style approach of photo mutilation to create a unique derivative work, but Celebrity Hack’s captions are actually funny, and go a lot farther than drawling drool, snot, and white powder.
#3) Kineda: Sexy!
The best designed gossip blog I’ve seen in a long time, Terry Ng’s men’s entertainment blog doesn’t post frequently, but when it does the words run together in smooth, gossipy rivulets that leave you energized and ready for more.
#4) I Don’t Like You In That Way
It’s got more ads than an hour browsing Google search results or Ebaumsworld, but I begrudgingly list it because it’s got a great community following, and tons of content. IDLYITW is also pretty original, if not commercialized.
It’s just photo after photo of celebs at this that and the other event. Who knows where this guy gets them from, but it’s straight real, from the source!
Now it’s up to my readers to highlight their favorite celebrity / entertainment blogs. If I like them, I’ll add them to this list. In the meantime, Digg this and spread the word!
Perez Hilton Sued AGAIN over Aniston Photo
Uber-gay media blogger Perez Hilton, the self-professed Queen of All Media, is being sued for posting copyright and confidential nude photos of Jennifer Aniston. Maria Lavandiera, the lawsuit alleges, posted the following photo on his disgusting blog:
The lawsuit actually alleges that Perez conspired to steal the photos from the set of her latest movie, “The Break Up,” with the express intent of profiting. Let’s pray they win. Plagiarism Today has a better writeup than this, but no pic!
