Hang on, because on May 16th, 2008 the next Narnia installment is coming! It’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Honestly, I was a bigger fan of the BBC made-for-tv series than these new watered-down movies.

Will Smith’s “I am Legend” Movie Poster

Posted in Movies by The Gossip Monger on October 13th, 2007.

Warner Bros. Pictures has provided ComingSoon.net with the new poster for I Am Legend, hitting conventional theaters and IMAX theaters on December 14. Directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine), the anticipated film stars Will Smith, Alice Braga, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Willow Smith and Charlie Tahan.

The only thing to worry about is that the name (for Christians) will automatically free-associate with “I am legion,” a story of multiple demonic possession.

David Hans Schmidt Dead: Tom Cruise’s, Scientology’s Secrets Safe

Posted in Odd..., Scandal, TomKat by The Gossip Monger on September 29th, 2007.

The man who brought us the Screech (Dustin Diamond), Tonya Harding, and Colin Farrel sex tapes and nude photos of Paula Jones and Jamie Foxx, celebrity scandal purveyor David Hans Schmidt is dead. Most recently, he was in the news after pleading guilty to extort $1 million from Tom Cruise. Apparently had stolen wedding photos of a sensitive nature. According to the National Ledger, he hung himself:

The 47-year-old Schmidt was found in a shower stall at a North 21st street condominium in Phoenix, AZ. “He hung himself, and the shower stall was so small, he had to squat to get the job done.”

Some random facts from nndb:

Born: 27-May-1960
Birthplace: Rochester, MN
Military service: US Army (1978-81)

High School: Dover-Eyota High School, Eyota, MN (1978)
University: Rochester Community College, Rochester, MN
University: BA English, Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN (1985)
University: Bowling Green State University

Charges: Harassment, Violating Probation

It’s possible that he found evidence that Tom Cruise is Gay, in which case the Church of Scientology and Cruise himself would certainly be interested in seeing him never see the light of day again. Who killed David Hans Schmidt? We’ll never know, but a lot of people wanted him dead.

CGI Beowulf Angelina Jolie

I find it hard to believe that this photo from Beowulf 2007 is a CGI Angelina Jolie:

She’s simply too sizzling hot!

Chuck & Larry “Not Normal”

Posted in Love, Movies by The Gossip Monger on July 28th, 2007.

Editor in Chief Candace Trunzo of the Star issued a formal apology for an article which showed a photo of Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry co-stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James pretending to kiss which was captioned “NOT normal.” The Star suggests the pair “Pucker up, lover boys!,” but blogger Matthew Rettenmund of Boy Culture would rather “Star pucker up and kiss my normal, gay ass.”

The apology, forwarded through GLAAD, is found below:

“‘Normal/Not Normal’ is supposed to be funny, and I regret that this particular photo caption was offensive and not written in a way to make it clear that we were being humorous. The joke was that Kevin James and Adam Sandler are not gay. If the kiss was between Lance Bass and his boyfriend or any other gay celebrities it would be ‘Normal.’ Let me point out that in the same issue of STAR, we devote the entire Couples News lead to Neil Patrick Harris and his boyfriend moving in together. Now that’s normal. I sincerely apologize that our attempt at humor was perceived by some to be offensive to the gay community. That was certainly not our intent. We are proud that we support the gay community and will continue to do so.”

It’s easy when writing about sensitive issues that have different viewpoints to consider them all and offend no one. My bet is the Star was sticking it safe with mostly-straight audience and didn’t even notice the potential slight towards their gay audience. Mistakes happen; it’s good they apologized.
