Eragon Movie SUCKS!
5.7 on IMDB and a mere 16% on Rotton Tomatoes means that Eragon is not a tale of brilliant cinematography.
Still, if you want a Christmas movie to take the kids under age 6 to, it’s not so bad. They’ll get to see “sorcery” and “dragons” and won’t notice the massive lack of plot, continuous discontinuity, terrible acting, and bad special effects.

im gonna state all the problem with the movie and compare it with the book:(maybe sad but i feel this should be done)
Problem: 1.there arent ment to be guards in carvahall and the time which the guard scenes took up should be used in bits that they missed out.
2.Roran (Eragons cousin) leaves for the wrong reasons he is ment to leave because he wants to get married to his girlfriend katrina in the film he leaves because hes afraid he will get recruited.
3.Saphira grows way…too quickly she doesnt just transform into a big dragon while shes flying she grows over a few days.
4.Eragon is too old in the book hes ment to be 15 going on 16 but in the film hes 17.
5.Eragons uncle doesn’t die like that hes ment to burn in a fire were hes rescued and taken to i think its Horsts house were he dies of a fever.
6.Angela the fortune teller person is in the wrong city as thats were all the villagers were killed and she ment to be were Jeod lives which is another city oh and jeod isnt in the film.
7.Urgals look wrong they are ment to have horns.
8.Eragon is ment to be captured were he finds Arya but instead in the film he goes and rescues her also murtag came in at the wrong time and was ment to shoot durza in the end but instead Eragon does.
9.Arya is ment to be unconscious through the whole journey to the varden.
10.giant urgals called the kull are ment to be foloing them not just normal urgals.
11.when they reach the waterfall eragon is ment to say some special words to open the stone wall to the varden.
12.3 characters arew missing the twins and orik who is a dwarf.
13.there is not one dwarf i see in the film and there arel ike hundreds in the book.
14.some random character the one with blondish grey hair and has a staff i thought maybe he was one of the twins but im not rly sure.
15.urgals in the battle were not all ment to die so quickly they were ment to fight each other when durza was killed.
16.durza is riding..well i dont know wtf that thing is and well its not in the book.
17.i shouldve put this problem further back but just remembered.they didnt even go through the Hadarac desert.
18.murtag is ment to be freed were he fights in the battle.
19.galbatorix armies are not even ment to be in the battle only the urgals.
20.eragon is ment to get his armour and dragon armour from the dwarves.
21.saphira was not close to death in the book only eragon was.
22. i missed 3 other problems out which i just remebered now brom is ment to die by the razac and the razac dont die in the first or even the second book but im not sure if they were killed cause well they sorta dissapeared.and eragon should be chasing the razac but in the film the razac are chasing them.
There is probably other problems but well cant think of them anyway i just wnated to point out how many problems there were cause i rly liked the book and the director or whoever made the film ruined it oh and galbatorix shouldnt be in the film at this point and were the hellis solembum the werecat he was cool in the book.
Okay, the movie sucked ***. I thoroughly enjoyed the books Eragon and Eldest (even though I am more of a fan of Raymond E. Feist’s books) and I thought that they *were* original (contrary to popular belief). The movie was a cotastrophe. It sucked in terms of watching it as a book fan as well as from the point of anybody who has ever seen a half decent movie. I would reccomend this kind of movie only to a person who has never read the book and has a mental condition that prevents them from noticing the lack of plot as well as the fact that there was only one *actor* in the entire film (Jeremy Irons).
Totally agree. Jeremy Irons rocked the movie flat out (what a hot voice)! Another problem is the sword zar’roc in the book is described with having a ruby in the pummle not a sapphire. AND because they didn’t stick to the plot and made Arya concious for the whole trip to the varden they presented the chance that Brom cold have been saved (Arya can use magic!!!!!)Loved Saphira though. Voice and graphics suited well. =)

also for xmas i asked for the game before i saw the movie (wish i hadn’t, you can only be saphira, no sword fighting only get to be a person while you on on the dragon) but in the game Murtagh does shoot durza but only because you can’t as you have mounted saphira.
funny enough, my mate liked it, i asked him about it and he left abit out, thought he was just forgetful when i saw it he was right (a very rare moment in time)
This was the worst thing that could have possibly happend to me i was swearing at everything it completely ruined my next week. Im sure im not the only one who waited almost 2 years for this peice of **** to come out. I think the director should be whipped, just a suggestion. The only actors i liked were brom and arya, how could they possibly ruin such an amazing book. Paulini ( forgive me if thats spelled wrong) this was the worst thing that could happen. Ok guys come on what the hell, the Razac died in the first 30 min. THATS THE WHOLE PLOT. Eragon goes off because he wants revenge without them theres no katrina theres no jeod theres no MURTAGH HE JOINS ERAGON BECAUSE HES TRACKING THE RAZAC. I think that its fair to say that this was a huge screw up and any evidence of this movie should be burned. Give this movie to a talented director like Peter Jackson. I have so much more to say but ill hold my tongue im hungry.

With the money they made with this, they should completely cancel to make eldest, and take that money to redo eragon, with the right plot.
If they do come out with eldest, they will most likely loose money because no one will want to see it.
Everyone that saw this movie and call the producer than tell him to get another top notch producer and make that guy do the movie properly. And also the movie should be long, not like average americain movie of 90 mins, a good freaking 2 1\2 hours for a book like this!

dude i agree with you i know this forum is probably really old and i found it while looking up eragon but that movie sucked ***. my friends and I were cussing for like a week about it after waiting like 2 ****** years. ****. The director should be lined up and shot for this ****. I refuse to see eldest. but book 4? hell yeah i’m readin it.

Arya didnt even lwk like an elf FFS. well guys and girls i think that the movie did suck but u have to think if they put evry thing in the movie how long of a movie would it be?? it would be so long they would have to have breaks in the middle. i have read eragon+eldest so many times and it is the best book ever so yea…. also book are almost always better than the movie for the simple fact that books have u put the way people look and the way u want to see the parts in the book. and to the people that say the twins were not in it……. they were when durza and the army were invadeing the vardon the twins were right on both sides of durza so yea the movie should have had more times spent on it and wat not so yea thnx for you time

I was sorely dissapointed when I went to the theaters to watch this movie. After reading both the books I was very eager to see this story put into a movie. If they do make a movie for Eldest, and it turns out like Eragon did, I am probably going to cry. There’s just no way you can put everything important from the books into an hour and a half movie. It’s just not possible. There’s too many characters, too much plot. For the Eldest movie, I think they need to get a few new actors. The kid that plays Eragon is really not a good actor. For me, he wrecked the movie more than the lack of plot. Also, they need to find a new producer, one that’s willing to put a decent amount of money into this film. MAKE IT A 3 HOUR MOVIE, THAT’S WHAT IT’S GOING TO TAKE!!!!
wtf is up with this. I read the book and the movie realy ruined it for everyone. The director took the cheap way out and cut the most important parts. He made all the characters look completely different from the book.

3. Brom is supposed to have a long beard
4. Urgals have horns

Why would you expect the movie to be good when the book was horrible. If the author of this book wasn’t a spoiled little rich kid this book would’ve (shoulda) never been published. I could spit out **** (blatant start wars / lotr rip off) and have it published if my parents were publishers. What was the main characters name again, was it Luke Skywalker ? ive not read the books but, during the whole movie i was thinking its a cross between star wars and lotr… me and my dad watched it and were joking about that the whole time.

that movie was horrible. I read the books they were great. The movie skipped alot of cool, key events that should have made the cut, like tierm, dras leona, etc. And the ra’zac looked like zombies. And not scary. I had always pictured them like cloaked hunchbacks with beaks hidden be hoods, just like the book described them. That movie left alot to be desired. what a waste of time and $10.

I loved the movie, but I will admit that I hadn’t read the books and because I would also be able to watch it with my daughter.
Though, since the movie I got my hands on the books and I really hope that if they ever do the sequel, that they would make it a bit more true to the books. As in Hollywood won’t make it so childish and stick to the plot or the main plot points.
I thought the Eragon movie left out bits, but it was still a great film. In harry potter movies they leave out bits, its not like u can fit the hole book into the bloody movie is it. i think anyone who thought it was bad is childish.
The book was AMAZING and yet the movie SUCKED. I was expecting it to be much better. I disliked Brom, in the movie, because i imagined him older looking sort of like Dumbledoor (in harry potter). And the Ra’zac, turned out to be dark bug things? instead of “Bird-like ” creaturs with wings. That was a disapointment for me. Also they skipped the part with Angela and Solembum! ARGH, welll i know that maybe they couldnt fit EVERYTHING into the movie, but it seems like they just read the first chapter of Eldest, and turned it into The MOVIE Eragon. Durza didnt even look scary, and i guess he lost his pointed teeth. And the scene with dead Garrow, there werent any burns from the oil and it also looked like that someone just sprinkled wood on him (what happend to the beam??)

The movie was horrible, pure horrible. In the beginning when he went hunting, he heard a noise and put an arrow to the bow. Then, 10 seconds later, he withdrew another arrow. WTF happened to the other arrow?!? O, and there was no Dwarves Anywhere! They said there would be dwarves. The movie was filled with empty promises and no dwarves. Thumbs down all the way.

graphics were good, the plot was completely ***. Half the time i was swearing at the television during the movie. I’ve never read the books, but am planning to.. but still this movie really sucks mega ***. To put it bluntly the movie sucked, and there needs to be no book published of the same name to state this as a fact. Plain and simple the movie is full of broken plots and seems to be racing to the end from the start, with practicaly no build-up at all.
For those of you who mention that there is no way to fit all of the details into the move from the book–of cource there isnt–but there is also no way to make a coherent story from the book in only 90 minutes. The average move made from a book, even a small one is generaly 2 and a half to 3 hours long. Then you can even drop back to lower budget movies, such as Dune 2000 (remake of the origional) and you run into a 6 hour+ movie (3 installments all released at once, but also made for tv =P) but to put it simply even that 6 hour movie didnt have all the details from the book, its just not gonna happen in any movie of any acceptable length.
But this is beside the point, the movie Eragon is missing pretty much every plot element that becomes important in the next book. I cant imagine how they could possibly expect to make a sequel of the movie and stay anywhere near the origional plotline. They also take almost no time to realy explain the situation; when i wached the movie i felt like if i hadnt read the book, i’d have no idea what was going on, or why. But the biggest problem is that there wasnt just “artistic license” with charecters and objects (remember zar,roc turns blue in the movie), but compleatly changed what they were urgals that look more like brutish men than orcish monsters with horns, ra,zac that are more insect like than bird, and whats with the stupid shadow creature the shade rides at the end, compleatly invented by the stupid movie’s riders, it doesnt even look like the description of a Lethrblaka, the mature version of the ra,zac and the only other flying thing that carries passengers in the cycle so far, now these are things that could have been done right without much money (propably would have been cheaper to film the last fight without all that stupid over-used cgi anyway)
Now to further to the plot holes, Eragon when he first sets out on his trip is not the type of person to run away, if the ra,zac had been chasing him at the time he left therinsford, he would have set up camp and waited for them, this is a huge plothole that falsly depicts Eragon’s personality and reasons. And since he left therinsfort CHASING the ra,zac, not the other way around, he would have to find them, as such much like in the book eventualy he would have to find a clever way to track them, leading him to teirm and jeod, and later to dras leona, then to gil’lead, and from there to the varden, there are just so many plot holes and downright breaks that i’m not even gonna go into them, i’ll just point you to another post on this page (post #2 from jimbo)
All and all about the only thing good about this movie i can say is: Atleast its shorter than this post
I have to agree with all of u this movie SUCKED, in my opinion the only reason they made this movie is to rip of Palolini (sorry if i spelled it wrong) great book to make money, cause they knew all kinds of people would c this movie, so i bet there not even going to make Eldest (and if they do i hope that directer and that punk kid that played Eragon go 2 hell)

Both the books were so predictable that my 8 year old could have written them and the movie was a pale immatation of the book at best.
Paolini shouldn’t be allowed to publish another book until his writing matures significantly and the movie should NEVER be considered.

I agree, I didn’t like the movie too much. Although, to some extent, action movies are good cause they’re action movies. And, about bashing the director. Do people really think that you could do better?
Well, yes the movie stunk to high heaven. I read the books last year and everyone told me not to watch the movie because it would ruin it. I just read the books again and I agree that Paolini has some serious issues. I have to give him credit for churning out a book by the time he was 19 but he is more interested in money than putting out a quality book. That is why he took the first movie deal that has ended up in shambles. Saphira has feathers for crying out loud!
I just hope that the extra time he has taken on Brisingr will be worth the wait.

I completely agree. I think this movie was a complete DISASTER. Look at the Narnia movie (Lion, withch and Wardrobe). THAT is how you make a book into a film. Not an incoherant rambling of swordfights and retarded zombies. Eragon the book was an amazing piece of literature, but the film is just plain EPIC FAIL!

It is such a shame what this tured out to be. Im not a hater like some of u guys are saying bad things to humens. The actors leave them out of this its the director and producers. People tell me they did not have enogh money and its like then dont make. palini said all this stuf at the begining on how the movie will be but after(reamber he did not give them the rights to do the film and even helped on the film) he did not say a thing he was discosted it looks like. So would i. God bless u palini brisinger was amazing and u are a great athour who had to see his book go down the drain into a terrible movie. This thread or whatever may be old, but still, i agree. The movie sucked. There was no Jeod, no twins, no dwarves. Yeah, Peter Jackson should be offered a ton of money buy Universal Studios or something, idk, to make a better movie. Because if somebody tries to make an Eldest remake, its gonna bomb worse than Eragon. Brisngr was awesome, and i (almost) always like the book better than movie. But sometimes, i wanna see movie, see how good it was, look at the characters compared to what i thought they looked like in my mind, etc. Also, that didnt look Farthen Dur, looked like Applachian mountain with the center carved out and carved ****. I have read Eragon and Eldest and am about 200 pages into Brisingr and i just bought the DVD last night.
i had watched the movie at the cinemas previously and just remembered today when i watched it again that it sucked ***.
i remember thinking it was so off the original plot that you might as well not even call the movie Eragon anymore.
Maybe something more that “Where'd That Plot Go?”

IT IS MEANT TO BE RED LIKE THE SWORD AND LIKE MORZAN'S DRAGON!

When Eragon attacks the urgals that are chasing them.
He never gets chased, so Brom and Saphira never have to hunt them down after, Brom and Saphira never talk and Brom never has an opportunity to give Saphira the memory as Eragon's father.
And by the way, i found a mistake in the third book.
In the memory, Brom is wearing Aren, but he didn't have it whilst travelling with Eragon and Saphira, Ajihad had it I think.
But when Eragon views Saphira's memory of Brom telling him he is his father, Paolini describes Aren on his finger.
That was the first mistake (apart from a couple of typos) i noticed in all the books, which is pretty good.
But i still wanted to point it out
Oh, and yes Sam, i also noticed he could walk and that Saphira had feathers.
I forgot to mention that in my above list.
I was thinking that throughout the whole movie.
what happened to “brightscales”?
more like “fluffyfeathers” now.
Those things couldnt deflect arrows or cut Eragon's legs up.

Saphira looks like a half donkey half long-neck dinosaur..and her voice sounds disgusting. oh.. and her so called “scales” are so dull and lifeless.. omg.. i can go on forever.. argh its just so wrong!

I was litterally mad throughout the entire movie. When I watched it, I had recently finished reading the first book and was around 70 pages into Eldest. Jimbo stated most of the plot lines that they left out. They never even showed the sapphire flower that Arya and Saphirabroke in the movie. Also, in the book, Eragon was not on Saphira when he killed Durza. He was on the ground.
The absolute WORST movie I have ever seen.
I have high standards for book and even higher standards for movies.

Yes, there's better, but there's also far, FAR worse. Paolini does pretty well, I did not fall asleep whilst reading.

Anyways on with the movie, I think everything that was wrong with it has been essentially said in this post: it's bad my book-fans and non-fans alike. Not somthing worthwhile for someone who values his/her time.
It's like they took all the magic elements out of the book, replaced it with CGI and hoped that no one would notice >_>
at least the costumes were not THAT bad, although Eragon's armor gace me creeps
I'm not sure if anyone has said this, but another fail in the movie was that Ayra doesn't have pointy ears.

Oh and another fail. But this has nothing to do with the book. When eragon first sees saphiras armor, and then when saphira later equips it, are two completely different armors. Just look at saphiras helmet at the two times.
One of the helmets covers the whole head, with holes for the eyes, but then later when saphira equips it, it only goes to the forehead and stops there.
I thought it suked because they messed the most important part of the book up THE END!!!!! sure they could have put in some of the smaller parts to make it alittle more true to the book but the fact that they couldn't even make the end the way it was suposed to be was what made me mad!!!

Look ppl the movie isn't true to the book. I'll give you that one. But this movie KICKED ***!!!!!! I would love a second one! The books really are better though. I picked the first one up after i watched the movie, I never put them down. More than the second movie I realy realy want the 4th book to come out. Well I did like the movie so mutch i had to buy it. You can say what you want but I like what I like and i like the movie!
the movie was actually pretty good if you never read the book….but once you read the book you can clearly see that the movie changed most of the plot….if there was a good director they would have cut parts out…but left the plot, like other movies based on books. in my opinion the plot of the movies is kinda fucked.. even if there wasnt a book the plot of the movie was garbage…and the director could have made it like 2 1/2 or 3 hours…..theres alot of good movies that are long

The movie sucks, and a few more things wrong with the movie (I can't remember everything because I only saw it once-where as I normally hire a good movie out again and again- but just noticing some stuff here.
1. Saphira has feathers, WHAT THE BLOODY HELL?!! And where are her back spikes?
2. Arya has raven hair (which I take to mean black, which raven is blonde?!! — Haven't they read the first chapter of this book? DIDNT THINK SO
3. They didn't read atleast the first chapter to the book
4. What's the storyline? The book has one but the movie is just like “Hey, let's go ride to the varden on a dragon, yay!”
5. The gedway insignia is just a spiral, what happened to silver? ARGETLAM ANYONE?!! (If they say that in the second movie- IF THERE IS ONE, which im hoping against, they're ruining the books name- I will go and break whatever is playing the movie.
6. Zar'rok has a saphire in a red sword, BIT RETARDED MUCH?
7. Saphira rips a whole roof off rescuing Eragon from jail– Is he even captured?
8. Urgals have HORNS! They also don't wear clothes I think, loinclothes. Nar Garzvog (or whatever) in the third book doesn't.
9. Arya just looks retarded. Nothing against the actress, they just didn't make her look right.
10. Galbatorix is still trying to master a new mystery and isn't paying attention to alaegasia (SO HE DOESNT APPEAR)

A friend of mine told me he’d bought the movie, and that it was terrible. He showed me the “Final Battle Scene” as an example. I literally could not stop laughing.
Also, what was up with Arya being scared or something like that? I can’t fully remember what I saw, but I’m pretty sure that Eragon had like no clue that she was scared until book three. Whereas what I remember of the movie scene was Arya looking WAYYY nervous.
This movie….was the worst piece of ****…that I have ever seen. The plot was **** and nothing like the masterpiece that the books were.
I know this has probably been said many times but the acting in this movie was terrible, the special effects were bad, they were missing the MAJORITY of the book, not just bits here and there like any other movie version of a book, but the MAJORITY!!! If it weren’t for the character names i would barely be able to recognise that this is a movie version of Eragon.
And i know that there are people who argue that the movie would be too long or the director was trying to be original, but that is total bullshit. The first lord of the rings movie goes for 2 and a half hours and the director manages to cut out most of the “unnessecary” (i know i spelt that wrong) parts of the story while sticking to the main storyline very nicely. Stephen Spielburg while directing the harry potter movies, followed the story extremebly closely (minus a few scenes and details) and those movies made billions of dollars and are still making money. Eragon (it doesn’t deserve the name by the way) apparently barely broke even, and has been copping **** ever since.
As for originality, we leave that to the AUTHOR OF THE STORY!!! not a script writer, not a director who is making one of his FIRST movies, but the AUTHOR OF THE BOOKS!
As i recall, when eldest came out in the books stores in australia, it actually overtook the harry potter series until the release of the half blood prince. Why then did the director feel the need to re-write the entire story? because he is an absolute ******!
I know this doesn’t really make any difference now that the movie is out and a sequal is probably coming up to officially destroy cinema for us all, but it feels good to rant, so yeah…lol.
I agree and another thing in the movie Saphira’s armor changes, beacuse if u look at when they first see it and then when she puts it one the helmets are different. and the movie just plain sucks because (although it burns my eyes to watch it) there are multiple errors and re -writes and personally i think they should do a REMAKE following the book and the orginal ideas. and really who cares if its 2 hours long or if its PG-13 as long as the movie KICKS ***! right!

When i read it i was like “WTF this was never in the movie” The movie has sooo many deleted key parts. So i have no hopes for eldest to be sucessful unless they fixed eragon
The Eragon series is amazing and i believe the movie was a joke. The people behind the movie obviously just read the description of the book on the back cover and disregarded the actual story. Anyone who believes the movie was good hasn’t read the books. Although this rarely happens i hope in the next 10 years someone will truly honor these books with a movie that actually fits with the story.
I am truly disappointed in the movie. I honestly had to force myself to watch it and made me sick. I loved the books and they will have to redo the movie. The director of the movie should not be allowed to make any other movies because of situations like this. The books are great and hopefully a director could remake the movie and make it great. Roran has a very important part in the story and they basically threw him off in the movie the didn’t even show anything about his love for katrina which is one of the essentials of the books. I honestly do not know what the director was even thinking when he made the movie he must have had rocks in his head or was very stubborn and thought he could change the story and make it his own and at the same time making one of the best books into one of the worst movies.

Oh man, I always wondered if everyone that has read the books hated the movie as much as me… I guess the fact that this thread is almost 3 years old is a pretty good sign that they did! Poor Christopher, he must have hated the movie but he’s probably not allowed to admit it. My sister and I saw this it at the cinema when it came out (we both LOVE the books) and couldn’t keep quiet, we were just constantly pointing out everything that they did wrong/badly. Which was everything. I’ve been looking around on the net at reviews and stuff of the movie (I should be studying for exams which is why I’m doing anything I possibly can to avoid doing that) and people are blaming it on Christopher It’s not his fault they screwed it up so badly!!! I certainly couldn’t have written anything as good when I was 15 and probably never could. Some people are saying that the books are bad and anyone could have written them and that they copy Star Wars. Firstly, anyone could NOT write something like this. There are so many small things that have to be right in order for everything to work and fit with the rest of the story and set things up for the other books in the series. It is ridiculous that anyone could think that. Secondly, it does have some resemblance to Star Wars but only in some of the main plot points not at all in detail. It’s only because the movie misses out all the details that it appears much more like Star Wars. Anyway that’s enough. Everyone has already said pretty much all there is to say on this topic. The movie doesn’t really deserve all this attention. But I have been waiting years to get all this out. Now I can forget about it. Unless they make an Eldest movie. But I doubt it.
